The msvbvm60.dll file is the main dll file included in the Visual Basic 6.0 Runtime kit. This dll file provides
support for various applications written in Visual Basic 6.0.
If you are receiving any error messages about the msvbvm60.dll file, then your runtime may not be present
or it may be corrupt. In this case you will need to deploy a fresh version of the msvbvm60.dll file. To do this,
you must NOT copy the file directly on your system. Instead, you should download and install the Visual Basic
Runtime 6.0 directly from Microsoft (
VBRun60sp6.exe).
The VBRun60sp6.exe is a self-extracting executable that will
extract and install all needed VB 6.0 runtime files on your computer. It also makes system configuration settings
accordingly, so that your VB based programs can run properly, like the OLE update on older operating systems like
Win9x for example. After running the installer, you may be prompted to reboot. If that happens, allow it to reboot.
Once the msvbvm60.dll has been reinstalled, your problems should disappear. This download package installs the Service Pack 6
version of the msvbvm60.dll, but this is also backwards compatible with applications written for previous versions
of VB6 runtime. The size of the package is roughly 1 MB, therefore it should not take long to download.
Windows XP users - please note that on Windows XP and above, the msvbvm60.dll file should be already installed because
it usually comes with the operating system, so you do not need to install it. However if you are having any problems
or in doubt, you can still install the runtime.
Please note that accordingly with the original license, the Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 runtime files, including
the msvbvm60.dll file, are free to download and use by anyone. Use the link mentioned
above to reach the download page from Microsoft.
